Nicolas
Meet travel photographer Nicolas, he captured some of the world’s most beautiful places. We caught up with him and asked what inspired him. We also ask Nicolas if he can give us some tips to make great travel photos.
How did your travel photography journey began and which was the first country you took photos from?
I think my travel photography journey started when I visited Japan. It was my childhood’s dreams country. I always wanted to go there. That is why when I went there in 2009, taking pictures has became the testimony that my dream came true. I didn’t had a DSLR (digital single-lens reflex camera) at that time and this travel was the main reason why I chose to buy one.
Where do you get your travel inspiration from? How do you decide which country you are going?
I get inspiration from almost everywhere. Reading traveler’s photography books or website.
It is also by wandering into Instagram accounts.
Do you have a favorite place, moment or country that you wish you would have captured but somehow you missed out?
I think my favorite place is Asia because it is so different from Europe. There are still so many spots in China, Taiwan or Japan I didn’t go yet.
What was the most inspiring thing you have photographed as a travel photographer?
Most inspiring thing I photographed is children when I traveled in China. I think this is another intersting way to see a country; the human way I guess.
Can you tell us about the gear you use for your travel photography?
I use mainly my wide angle Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 and my fixed lens Nikon AF-S DX 35 mm f/1.8G then I can do landscape and/or portrait photography.
Do you have tips or advice as a travel photographer for our readers how to make great travel photos?
I think the key is patience and time. The most difficult thing while travelling is to be able to visit every places you planned to go and take time to take good pictures. That’s why I think it’s really important to take the time to stay somewhere to look where you can make better pictures or at least uncommon. The idea is to have your personal pictures and not only same pictures as everyone.

What’s the most exciting photography trend of 2016?
I think portrait is still the type of pictures I like the most and lifestyle photography is great too.
What kind of shoes do you take with you while travelling?
I take my ordinary shoes. Same shoes as I take to go to the office. Most important is that shoes should be confortable so you can walk all day long.
Which country is next on your bucket list?
I have several but nothing planned yet: Scotland, Ireland, China, Japan, Taiwan.
